Marissa Stom was born on July 13, 1991. She trained at McCracken's Gymnastics in Kansas during her club career. She graduated from high school in 2009.
In 2005, Marissa competed level eight. She placed second on vault at the San Diego Classic. She moved up to level nine in 2006. She finished in the top ten all-around at Regionals. At Westerns, she finished 30th all-around. In 2007, Marissa finished third on beam at the Crystal Cup. She finished second on vault at the Friendship Cup. Marissa won bars and beam at the State Championships. She finished third all-around at Regionals. At Westerns, she placed seventh on floor and in the all-around.
Marissa began competing level ten in 2008. She won vault and beam at the State Championships. She finished third on vault at Regionals. She competed at JO Nationals. In 2009, Marissa placed second on vault at the Texas Prime meet. She won vault at the Pink Ribbon Invitational. She finished third all-around at Regionals. She competed at JO Nationals. As a freshman at Illinois State in 2010, Marissa competed on vault and beam.
