Sara Townsend was born on February 23, 1994. h trained at Libertyville until 2005. She moved to Buffalo Grove for the 2006 season. She trained at Aerial Gymnastics for the 2007 and 2008 seasons. She followed her coach, Jiani Wu, to Naperville in July. In March of 2010, Jiani Wu and her husband opened a new gym, Legacy Elite.
Sara competed level seven in 2004. She placed in the top ten at the State Championships. She moved up to level nine in 2005. She competed at the State Championships. In 2006, Sara qualified to Regionals as a level nine. She continued competing level nine in 2007. She finished high enough at Regionals to qualify for Easterns. She finished in the top fifteen all-around! Sara finished second on vault and first on beam at the St. Nick Invite in December. She then moved up to level ten for the 2008 season. Sara finished third all-around at the IGI Chicago Style Meet. At Regionals, she placed third all-around with a 37.3. She qualified for the JO National Championships.
She had a great season in 2009. She finished in the top ten at the Twistars Invitational, Bravo Classic and IGI Chicago Style. At Regionals, she placed fourth all-around, qualifying for JO
Nationals. Sara placed in the top thirty. She continued to improve in 2010. She finished second all-around at the Gateway Challenge. At the Arena Classic, she placed third all-around. Sara finished fifth at the State Championships with a 37.850. Unfortunately, an injury forced her to scratch some events at Regionals. In 2011, she finished fourth all-around at the Bravo Classic. She finished second on bars at the WOGA Classic. At the State Championships, she placed third all-around. Sarah finished sixth all-around at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she finished 27th all-around.
