Alyssa Brianne Strodel was born on July 4, 1991 to Greg and Sharon Strodel. She has a older brother, Christopher, and a younger sister, Cara. She trained at Northshore Gymnastics in 2004. In 2005, Alyssa competed for Emerald City Gymnastics. She began training at Gymnastics East for the 2006 season. She trained there for the remainder of her club career.

In 2004, Alyssa competed as a level nine. She won the Golden State Friendship Challenge. At the Level 9 State Championships, Alyssa placed fourth all-around. She qualified to Westerns at Regionals! She moved up to level ten in 2005. She won the State All-Around Title! She also placed first on vault and beam! At Regionals, Alyssa placed in the top seven to qualify for the JO National Championships. In 2006, she won the Gymnastics in Paradise meet. She also won the IGI Chicago Style. Alyssa placed first on vault and third all-around at the State Championships. She qualified to her second JO National Championships!

Alyssa continued competing as a level ten in 2006. she won the Gymnastics in Paradise meet. She also won the IGI Chicago Style. Alyssa placed first on vault and third all-around at the State Championships. She qualified to her second JO National Championships! In 2007, she finished first all-around and first on vault at the Flips USA Invitational. Alyssa finished third on vault and second on floor at the Hard Rock Invitational. She won the all-around! She finished fourth all-around at States. She placed second on vault and third on floor. She won vault at Regionals. She placed fourth all-around. At JO Nationals, she placed third all-around, earning a spot on the JO National Team.

In 2008, Alyssa won vault at the Seattle Open. She finished third all-around. She placed third on vault and in the all-around at the Metroplex Challenge. She won a silver medal on beam. At the Vegas Cup, Alyssa won vault, beam, floor and the all-around. Unfortunately, a torn ACL ended her season. She joined Arkansas' team for the spring semester of 2009 but did not compete because she was still recovering. She retired from the Arkansas team due to injuries.
