Kayla Strohmeyer was born on May 20, 1996. Her sister, Ashley, is also a gymnast. Kayla trained at Capital Gymnastics before moving to Platinum in 2007. Kayla moved to National Elite following the 2009 season. She will graduate from high school in 2014.

In 2005, Kayla competed level seven. She finished fifteenth at the State Championships in the silver division. Kayla continued competing level seven in 2006. In 2008, she competed level eight. She placed fourth all-around at the National judges Cup. At the IGI Chicago Style, Kayla finished first in the all-around and bars. At States, she finished in the top ten. Kayla concluded her season with a sixth place finish at Regionals.

Kayla moved up to level nine in 2009. She placed in the top ten at the Metroplex Challenge. At Regionals, she finished fourth all-around and third on beam. She ended her season at Westerns. Kayla continued competing level nine in 2010. She placed fourth all-around at the Rose City Classic. At State, she placed third on bars and in the top ten all-around. Her next meet was Regionals where she finished third all-around and second on vault. Kayla finished eleventh all-around at Westerns. She placed fourth on vault.
