Amanda Stroud was born in Jacksonville, Florida, on June 30, 1984. She is the daughter of Paul and Becky. She has one younger sister, Melissa. She began gymnastics in 1987. She trained at GAGE from 1998 to 2000. In 2001, she switched to Southern California Elite Gymnastics Academy in California. She competed for the University of Florida for a year.

She qualified to the JO National Championships in 1998. In 1999, she competed as a junior international elite. She made her first US National Team. She competed at the junior French Connection in France. She moved up to senior international elite. After placing third all-around at the American Classic, she had an injury on one of her events at the US National Championships. She petitioned to the US Olympic Trials. In 2001, Amanda competed at the US Classic. She finished tenth all-around at the US National Championships.

In the fall of 2002, she began attending the University of Florida. She competed on vault and floor during her freshman year. Amanda stopped competing after her freshman year.
