Emma Szakal was born on March 10, 1990. She trained at Parkettes during her club career. In 1999, she qualified to TOPs National Testing.

In 2000, Emma competed as a level eight. She moved up to level nine in 2001. She finished fourth on beam at Regionals. In 2002, she did level nine again. Emma placed first on bars at States. She qualified to Easterns.

She moved up to level ten in 2003. Emma placed in the top ten at States and Regionals. She finished third on bars and beam at Regionals. In 2004, she won bars at Regionals. Emma qualified to her first JO National Championships. At the 2005 State Championships, she finished second on floor. In 2006, Emma won bars at Regionals. She qualified to JO Nationals. She finished first on bars and floor at the 2007 State Championships. She qualified to JO Nationals.
