Ashley Tai was born on August 22, 1998. She trains at Technique Gymnastics. She will graduate from high school in 2016.

In 2005, Ashley began competing level five. She finished second on bars and fourth all-around at the Hollywood Invitational. She placed third on bars and seventh all-around at the Zone Championships. At the State Championships, she placed in the top twenty. She continued competing level five in 2006. She won floor at the High-Tech Invitational. She won the all-around at the Aloha Invitational and Red Line 500. At the Holly Wood Invitational, she won vault, beam, floor and the all-around. Ashley won vault, beam, and the all-around at the Zone Championships. She won bars and the all-around at the State Championships. Her all-around total was one of the six highest in the State, earning her a spot on the state team.

She moved up to level six in the fall of 2007. She won the all-around at the Judges Cup. At the Stars Challenge, she won vault, bars and the all-around. Ashley won vault, bars and the all-around at the Red Line 500. At the Hollywood Invitational, she won floor. Ashley won bars and the all-around at the Zone Championships. At the State Championships, she won vault, bars, floor and the all-around. She again earned a spot on the State Team. In January, she competed at the National Judges Cup as a member of the NorCal State Team. She won beam and placed third all-around.

Ashley immediately began competing level seven in 2008. She won the all-around at the Battle in Seattle. At the Golden State Classic, she won vault, bars, beam and the all-around. At the State Championships, she placed second on vault and bars. She finished third all-around. In 2009, Ashley competed level eight. She won vault at the Delta Classic. She won beam at the Lady Luck Invitational. At the Hard Rock Invitational, she placed second all-around. Ashley won floor at the Long Beach Open. At the Golden State Classic, she won vault, beam and the all-around. She finished in the top ten at the State Championships. She ended her season placing ninth at Regionals.

In 2010, Ashley competed level ten. She placed second on beam at the Red Hear Invitational. At the Aloha Gymfest, she placed second all-around. She won floor at both the San Diego Classic and Battle in Seattle. At the Golden State Classic, she won beam. Ashley finished second on beam and seventh all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she placed seventh all-around. She ended her season at JO Nationals, placing first on beam and tenth on floor. She finished 13th all-around.
