Traci Takeda was born on June 26, 1988. She is the daughter of Richard and Eileen Takeda. She graduated from Clovis High School in 2006. She competed in gymnastics and track. She trained at Clovis Academy of Gymnastics for ten years.

At Clovis High School, she was twice named Tri-River Athletic Conference Most Valuable Player. She led the team to four conference titles. She was named all-conference all four years. Traci was all-Central section all four years as well. She earned several awards for her strong leadership.

In 2002, Traci competed as a level nine. She qualified to States and Regionals. She continued competing as a level nine in 2003. She finished in the top ten at States. She then competed at Regionals. Traci moved up to level ten in 2004. She did not make Regionals. In 2005, she finished fourth on bars at the Level 10 State Championships. At Regionals, Traci placed in the top twenty. Her senior year was in 2006. She finished third on beam at States. Regionals was not her best meet.

As a freshman, she was used on bars and beam. She exhibitioned on bars six times and competed once. She had three beam scores and one exhibition. Traci became the leadoff gymnast on beam as a sophomore. She won beam against Southern Utah. She also competed on vault and bars. In 2009, Traci competed on vault, bars and beam. She qualified for the NCAA West Regional as an individual on balance beam.
