Jennifer Lauren Taylor was born in Oklahoma City on October 7, 1989. She began gymnastics at the age of 4 and a half at Dynamo Gymnastics in Oklahoma. She continued at Dynamo until level four. Her dad then received a transfer to Texas. Jennifer training at Arlington Gymnastics Academy until it closed down. She then went to Dallas Gymnastics Center. Jennifer soon moved back to Oklahoma so she returned to Dynamo for two years. Jennifer then moved to Krafft Gymnastics in Tulsa, Oklahoma where she finished her club career.

She competed level nine in 2000. She won bars and beam at Westerns. In 2001, she moved up to level ten. In 2003, Jennifer had a very successful season. At Regionals, she won the all-around title! At JO Nationals, Jennifer placed second all-around and first on bars. She continued her winning ways in 2004. At the Kurt Thomas Invitational, she scored a perfect ten. Jennifer won Regionals again. At JO nationals, she won uneven bars and placed sixth all-around.

In early 2005, Jennifer suffered a back injury. She was able to test elite testing routines in the summer. She received her international score. In 2006, she qualified for the JO National Championships. She won her third bars title and finished fifth all-around in a tough age division. After the level ten season, she qualified to senior international elite. Jennifer competed at the US Classic! She returned to level ten in 2007. She won the all-around at the Friendship Cup and Dyanmo Classic. At States, she won vault, bars, floor and the all-around. She won bars and placed fourth all-around at Regionals. In 2008, Jennifer placed second on bars at States and Regionals. She placed fifth all-around at Regionals.

As a freshman at Kentucky, she exhibitioned on uneven bars twice. She competed against Arkansas.
