Tori Howard was born on June 21, 1991. She trained at Olympiad Ellisville through the 2003 season. She then moved to St. Louis Gym Centre where she was coached by Laura Faintich. She graduated from high school in 2009.

In 2003, Tori competed level eight. She finished fourth on floor and eighth all-around at Regionals. Tori moved up to level nine in 2004. She won the all-around title at the State Championships. She competed at Regionals. In 2005, Tori won floor and the all-around at the Hard Rock Invitational. She finished first all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she placed first on beam and the all-around. Tori placed fifth on beam, tenth on floor and sixth all-around at Westerns.

Tori moved up to level ten in 2006. She finished third all-around at Regionals. She competed at JO Nationals. In 2007, Tori won vault, beam, floor and the all-around at Regionals. She placed seventh on floor at JO Nationals. She finished tenth all-around. In 2008, Tori won beam, floor and the all-around at the Harley Davidson meet. She won all five gold medals at the State Championships. At Regionals, she placed first on beam and second all-around. Tori placed ninth on vault at JO Nationals. In 2009, she won vault and beam at the Tampa Bay Turners Invitational.

As a freshman at Missouri in 2010, Tori competed on floor during the first half of the season. She finished second on floor at Centenary. Tori also had exhibition routines on vault and beam. In 2011, Tori exhibitoned on vault at the Cancun Classic. She won floor against Southern Utah. Tori competed on beam at the Big 12 Championships. She was named to the All-Big 12 Academic team.
