Rachel Tidd was born on May 20, 1984 in Escondido, California. She is the daughter of Susan and Michael. Rachel has nine siblings. Her sisters are Mikala, Samantha, Olivia, Ashley, Holly and Nicole and her brothers are Steven, Taylor and Brian. Rachel Michelle Tidd was born. She began gymnastics at SCEGA. She trained at SCEGA until 1998. She then switched to Charter Oak Gliders since they had an elite program. Rachel returned to SCEGA in 1999 when they created an elite program. She competed for the University of Utah for two years.
In 1999, Rachel competed as a junior international elite. She qualified to the US Nationals by placing high enough at the US Classic. At Nationals she placed 15th all-around and made the National Team. She finished third all-around at the USA vs. France dual meet later that year.
Rachel moved up to the senior ranks in 2000. She finished sixth all-around at the Bluewater International to start her season off. At the US Classic she finished eighth all-around and fourth on beam. Rachel finished fourth on vault and 12th all-around at the National Championships. She qualified to the Olympic Trials. Rachel finished the Olympic process in tenth place.
She emerged as a leader of the USA team in 2001. Rachel opened her season up in the USA vs. Belgium meet. At the 2001 US Classic she finished third all-around, third on floor, third on beam and second on vault Rachel placed fourth all-around at the US National Championships. She was named to the World Team. At the World Championships Rachel qualified to the individual event beam finals. She also took home a bronze with the United States team.
Rachel began her freshman year with the University of Utah in 2003. She was not able to compete at her first National Championships because of mono. However, she was able to win the regional vault title. Rachel was a first team All-American on bars at in 2005. She was also second team All-America honors on vault. Rachel was not able to finish her career with the Utes because of a back injury.
