Taylor Jacob was born on June 25, 1987. She is the daughter of Craig and Kim Jacob. She has two sisters, Kara and Cami. She began gymnastics in 1995. She trained at Eric Will Gymnastics until the 2004 season. She then moved to Scats Diamond Elite Gymnastics. She trained there under Trent and Jill Spaulding.

In 2000, Taylor competed as a level eight. She finished fifth all-around at States. She scratched Regionals. By 2002, Taylor was competing as a level nine. She finished third all-around at Westerns. In 2003, she moved up to level ten. She placed fourth on vault at Regionals. At the 2004 State Championships, Taylor finished third all-around. She then finished in the top seven at Regionals, qualifying for the JO National Championships. At JO Nationals, she finished thirteenth all-around. In 2005, she won the state all-around, vault and bars title. Taylor qualified to her second JO National Championships. She finished in the top ten on bars.

As a freshman at Boise State, Taylor competed on beam and floor at the NCAA West Championships. She finished second on bars and beam at the WAC Championships. She was named WAC Gymnast of the Week on March 6. She competed in the all-around throughout the season. Taylor was named WAC All-Academic. In 2007, she competed in two meets before a season-ending injury. She won uneven bars at both meets against Fullerton and BYU. She also won floor against BYU.

She returned in 2008 competing on bars, beam and floor. She competed in all twelve competitions. She finished third against Oregon State, Missouri and Sac State. She won bars against Fullerton. She earned a total of four event titles on bars. She finished third on bars at the Regional Championships. Taylor was named WAC Gymnast of the Week in January. She was a 2008 WAC All-Academic Honoree.

In 2009, she was named WAC Specialist of the Week for the last week of January. She won three bars titles in the first three meets of the season. She continued to post good bars and beam scores throughout the season.
