Thao Nguyen was born on October 21, 1997. She trains at Poway Gymnastics. She will graduate from high school in 2013.
In 2005, Thao competed level four. She won bars, beam, floor and the all-around at the 1st Prelim. At the Judges Cup, she placed third all-around. Thao won bars, beam and floor at the Butterfly Classic. She finished first on bars, beam and the all-around at the South Sectional meet. At the State Championships, she placed first on bars, beam and the all-around! Thao competed level five in 2006. She placed first on vault, bars, floor and the all-around at the Hang Ten Invitational. Thao won the all-around titles at both the 1st Prelim and 2nd Prelim. At the Butterfly Classic, she won floor. Thao then took home first on bars, beam, floor and the all-around at the 3rd Prelim. She finished first on bars, floor and the all-around at South Sectionals. At the State Championships, she placed second on bars and fourth all-around.
Thao competed level six in the fall of 2007. She finished first on beam, floor and the all-around at the 1st Prelim. Thao placed second all-around at the 3rd Prelim. At South Sectionals, she own beam and finished third all-around. Thao finished fourth on beam at the State Championships. She immediately began competing level seven in 2008. She finished second all-around at the Flips USA Invitational and San Diego Classic. Thao won floor at the Hardrock Invitational. At the Top Flight Invite, she placed third all-around. Thao finished second all-around at the State Championships.
In 2009, Thao competed level eight. She placed second on beam at the San Diego Classic. She finished third on bars at the Long Beach Open. At the Malibu Coast Challenge, she finished third all-around. Thao placed second on beam at the State Championships. At Regionals, she placed fourth on bars and third on beam. Thao began competing level nine in 2010. She finished third on beam at the Red Heart Invitational. At the Malibu Coast Challenge, she placed third on bars. Thao continued competing level nine in 2010. She placed third all-around at the San Diego Classic. At the AOGC Invitational, she finished second on floor.
