Audrey Tolbert was born on January 17, 1994, in Silver Springs, Maryland. She began her competitive gymnastics career in 1998. Audrey trains at Frederick Gymnastics in Maryland.

In 2002, Audrey competed level five. She moved up to level six in 2003. As a level seven in 2004, Audrey finished fourth all-around at the State Championships. She won a silver medal on vault at the American Twisters Invitational as a level eight in 2005. She moved up to level nine in 2006. She finished fourth on vault at the Maryland Classic and third on vault at the Cactus Cooler.

Audrey continued competing level nine in 2007. She placed second all-around at States. At Regionals, she finished in the top ten, qualifying for Easterns. Audrey began competing level ten in 2008. She finished fourth on beam at the State Championships. In 2009, she improved to second on beam. Audrey placed third all-around at Regionals, qualifying for JO Nationals where she placed 25th all-around. Audrey struggled in the beginning of the 2010 season as she was recovering from injuries. She steadily improved, finishing fourth all-around at the Frederick Classic. Audrey won bars at the State Championships. She placed second all-around at Regionals. At JO Nationals, Audrey placed seventh on bars and ninth on beam. She finished 28th all-around.
