Tiffany Tolnay was born on May 9, 1987. She is the daughter of Cotton and Melissa. Tiffany has one brother, Austin. She began gymnastics in 1992. She trained at Texas Dreams from 2002 to 2005. Before that, she competed for Sunbelt Gymnastics in Texas. She was the first MSO National Gymnast of the Year in 2004. She also was the Texas USA Gymnast of the Year.

In 1999, she competed as a level nine. She won vault at the Go For It Classic. She qualified to the Western Championships. By 2002, she was competing as a level ten. In 2003, she won the state all-around title. She also won Regionals. At the JO National Championships, Tiffany won the vault, uneven bars and all-around title! She swept the gold medals at Regionals in 2004. She won her second JO National all-around title! Her senior year was in 2005. Tiffany won States and Regionals. She won four gold medals at the JO National Championships!

As a freshman at the University of Georgia, she competed every event. She was a First-Team All-American on vault, beam and in the all-around. She was second-team on bars. She competed all four events in the Super Six Finals. She won floor at Regionals. As a sophomore, Tiffany continued to find success. She was a First-Team All-American on vault, floor and all-around. She earned second-team honors on bars. She again finished fourth in the NCAA all-around. At NCAA Regionals, she won vault. She finished second on bars and beam at the SEC Championships. She was named to the All-SEC Team. She also earned a spot on the SEC Academic Honor Roll.

During her junior season she earned four more All-American first team honors on bars, beam, floor and the all-around. She finished third all-around at the NCAA Championships. She also qualified for three event finals. She was named First-Team All-SEC for the third time. She also won the SEC uneven bars title. For the second year, she earned a spot on the SEC Academic Honor Roll. Tiffany concluded her career with another successful season. She competed as an all-arounder in nine of Georgia's meets despite an avulsion fracture in her right root that required surgery following the season. She was also named to the Athletic Director's Honor Roll during the fall semester.
