Tessa Phillips was born on April 14, 1999. She trained at Gymnastics World through the 2010 season. She then moved to Buckeye Gymnastics. She will graduate from high school in 2017.

In 2007, Tessa competed level five. She finished third all-around at the Buckeye Classic. She won seven all-around titles in 2007 including the Fall State Championships, Ohio Judge's Cup, Elite Classic, Turkey Meet, Rookie Challenge, Bunny Hop Invitational and Follow Your Dreams. In addition to winning the all-around title at the State Championships, she also won vault and floor. She made the National TOPs Diamond Team. Tessa competed only once in 2008, as a level six at the Rock n Roll Classic. She won bars, beam, floor and the all-around. She made the National TOPs "B" Team. She competed level seven in 2009. She finished second all-around and first on floor at the Graffiti Invitational. She placed second all-around at the Rock'n'Roll Classic. At the Circle of Stars meet, she finished second all-around. She finished first all-around at the Derby Classic, the Arnold Challenge and the Integrity meet. She finished first on floor and second on bars in event finals at the Arnold Challenge. She won bars, beam, floor and the all-around at the State Championships. She made her second National TOPs "B" Team.

Tessa moved up to level eight in 2010. She finished second on bars and floor at the Rock'n'Roll Classic. At the Luau in Leos meet, she won floor. Tessa finished first on bars and floor at the Queen City Classic. She finished third all-around at the Arnold Gymnastics Challenge. At the State Championships, she won floor. Tessa competed at Regionals. She made her third National TOPs "B" Team. Tessa moved up to level nine in 2011. She finished second on floor at the Universal Galaxy meet. She placed third on floor at the Circle of Stars meet. At the Athlete Warrior Challenge, she finished third on beam and second on floor. Tessa won vault, bars, floor and the all-around at the State Championships. She placed first on floor and fifth all-around at Regionals. At Easterns, she placed first on floor. She finished tenth all-around.
