Kelsey Turnquist was born on January 11, 1992. She trained at Oakland Gymnastics until the spring of 2007. She then moved to Michigan Elite Gymnastics Academy (MEGA). Kelsey graduated from high school in 2010.
In 2005, Kelsey competed level eight. She qualified for Regionals. She moved up to level nine in 2006. She finished 34th all-around at Easterns. In 2007, Kelsey won the all-around title at Regionals. At Easterns, she placed third on beam and sixth all-around. She competed a third year of level nine in 2008. She finished second all-around and first on beam at the IGI Chicago Style. At Regionals, she won beam. Kelsey won beam and placed second all-around at Easterns.
Kelsey began competing level ten in 2009. She won beam at the Twistars Invitational. At the IGI Chicago Style, she finished second all-around. She won floor at the Motown Madness meet. Kelsey finished second on beam at the State Championships. At Regionals, she finished fourth on bars and sixth all-around. She ended her season at JO Nationals. In 2010, she finished third all-around at the Sand Dollar Invitational. She placed second at both the IGI Chicago Style and Circle of Stars meet. At the State Championships, she won beam and finished third all-around. Kelsey placed sixth on beam at Regionals. She qualified for the JO NIT.
