Kelsey Tyas was born on October 20, 1994. She trained at Seattle Gymnastics through the 2004 season. She then moved to Leading Edge Gymnastics Academy. She began training Auburn Gymnastics Center in the summer of 2010. Kelsey will graduate from high school in 2013.
In 2003, Kelsey competed level four. She placed fifth on bars at Sectionals. She competed level six in 2006. She finished first on bars at the Emerald Team Challenge. Kelsey moved up to level seven for the 2007 season. She finished in the top fifteen all-around at the State Championships. In 2008, Kelsey competed level eight. She finished third all-around at the Emerald Team Challenge. She qualified to Regionals. In 2009, Kelsey finished fourth on bars at the Great West Gym Fest. She finished sixth all-around at the State Championships.
Kelsey began competing level nine in 2010. She finished third on beam at the Battle in Seattle. At the State Championships, she placed in the top fifteen all-around. Kelsey finished third all-around at Regionals. At Westerns, she finished 14th all-around. In 2011, she finished second on vault at the battle in Seattle. She won vault at the Byers Invitational and bars at the March Madness. At the State Championships, she placed third all-around. She placed fourth all-around and third on bars at Regionals. Kelsey placed sixth on vault and eleventh all-around at Westerns.
