Eryn Underwood was born on July 2, 1997. She has one sister, Brooke, who is also a gymnast. Eryn trains at Gymnastics Academy of Atlanta under Irina Podgornaya and Jacobo Giron. She will graduate from high school in 2015.

In 2006, she made the National TOPs Team. Eryn competed level seven in 2007. She placed second on vault, bars and floor at the Carolina Classic. She won bronze medals on vault and bars at the WOGA Classic. At the Atlanta Crown Invitational, she finished third on bars and floor. In the fall, Eryn made the National TOPs "B" Team.

She competed level nine in 2008. At the Atlanta Crown Invitational, she won a bronze medal on floor. Eryn finished third all-around at the Gasparilla Classic. At the National Gymnastics Challenge, she won uneven bars. She finished second all-around. Eryn competed at States and Regionals. She made her second National TOPs Team in the fall.

Eryn continued competing level nine in 2009. She won vault at the Sand Dollar Invitational. At the National Challenge, she won vault, bars and floor. Eryn won floor at States and vault at Regionals. She competed at the American Challenge as a pre-elite. Eryn began competing level ten in 2010. She finished fourth on floor at the Atlanta Crown Invitational. She placed second on vault at the Mardi Gras meet. At the State Championships, she placed first on bars and second all-around. She finished in the top twenty at Regionals. In 2011, Eryn finished third on bars and floor at the Spring Fling meet. She placed second on bars and fifth all-around at the State Championships. She finished in the top twenty at Regionals.
