Abby Unger was born on June 2, 1997. Her older sister, Brooke, was also a gymnast. Abby trained at Vertical Gymnastics through the 2007 season. She then moved to Colorado Gymnastics Institute. She will graduate from high school in 2015.
Abby competed level five in 2005. She finished third on bars and second on floor at the State Championships. She moved up to level six in 2006. She finished in the top ten at the State Championships. Abby immediately began competing level seven in 2007. She won beam at the Gasparilla Classic. She finished second all-around. Abby competed level eight in 2008. She won bars at the San Diego Classic. Abby placed second on floor at the Battle in Seattle. At the State Championships, she placed first on beam and third all-around. Abby finished in the top twenty at Regionals.
In 2009, Abby competed level nine. She finished second all-around at the Alamo Classic. She won the all-around title at the Golden State Classic. Abby placed third all-around at the State Championships. She finished in the top twenty at Regionals. Abby moved up to level ten in 2010. She finished in the top ten at the AOGC Invitational. She won beam and floor at the Pikes Peak Cup. She finished second all-around. Abby placed fourth all-around at the Manhattan Classic. She missed the rest of the season due to injury. In 2011, Abby won beam, floor and the all-around at the Sand Dollar Invitational. She placed first on floor and the all-around at the Denver Winterfest. She finished second all-around at the State Championships. She won bars. Abby had a strong meet at Regionals, finishing in the top twenty all-around with a 36.925.
