Erika Van Dyke was born on March 20, 1990. She trained at Rising Star Gymnastics in Grass Valley, California through the 2003 season. She then moved to Deltchev Gymnastics. Erika trained at Byers during her senior year of high school in 2008.

In 2002, Erika competed level seven. She finished second all-around at the Sweetheart Invitational. At the State Championships, she finished fourth on vault. Erika moved up to level nine in 2003. She finished in the top fifteen at the State Championships. She competed at Regionals. In 2004, Erika won bars at the Flips USA Invitational. She placed second on bars at the State Championships. At Regionals, she finished third all-around. Erika won beam at Westerns! She placed second on floor and third all-around.

Erika competed her final year as a level nine in 2005. She won bars and the all-around at the Flips USA Invitational. She placed first on bars, beam and the all-around at the Golden State Classic. At the State Championships, she won bars, beam, floor and the all-around. Erika finished second all-around at Regionals. At Westerns, she placed third on bars and sixth on floor. She finished eleventh all-around. She began competing level ten in 2006. She won beam at the Flips USA Invitational. Erika finished sixth all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she won beam and finished fourth all-around. She finished ninth on beam at JO Nationals.

She won beam at the 2007 San Diego Classic and Byers Invitational. She finished second on bars and beam at the State Championships. She finished third all-around. At Regionals, Erika finished ninth all-around. In 2008, she won beam at the AOGC Invitational. She finished third all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she finished second on floor and fourth all-around. Erika finished 26th all-around at JO Nationals.

As a freshman at Davis in 2009, Erika earned All-MPSF honors on floor. She competed on floor in eleven meets and beam in eight meets. She earned NACGC/W All-Academic honors. In 2010, she won the MPSF title on balance beam after recording a 9.900 to tie a school record. She earned All-MPSF honors on beam and floor, after finishing third on the latter. She earned All-Academic honors from MPSF and NACGC/W.
