Sydney Waltz was born on October 26, 1995. She trains at Gold Medal Gymnastics in Ohio. She will graduate from high school in 2014.

As a level 8 gymnast in 2007 competing for Starz Gymnastics Dance and Cheer, Sydney placed third in the all-around, first on uneven bars and third on floor exercise at the Ohio State Championships. At the Level 8 Regionals, she finished sixth in the all-around. She was a member of Ohio Super State Team and Region 5 Championship Team.

Sydney moved up to level 9 for the 2008 season with Bowling Green Gymnastics Academy. She finished second in the all-around, third on vault, second on balance beam and first on floor exercise at the Exceleration Meet. At the Frogtown Invitational, she placed fourth in the all-around and first on vault. She finished fourth on vault and third on uneven bars at the Buckeye Classic. At the Arnold Classic, Sydney placed third in the all-around and first on vault. She qualified to the vault finals and finished third. She finished first on uneven bars as well as third on vault and in the all-around at the Derby Classic. At the Level 9 State Championships, she won the vault title and qualified to the Level 9 Regionals.

She started her 2009 season with Halker's Gold Gymnastics at the Region 5 Cup where she placed second on vault and fourth on balance beam, floor exercise and in the all-around. At the Battle of Champions, she earned gold medals on uneven bars, floor exercise and in the all-around. She swept the gold medals at the Capitol City Classic. Sydney then finished second in the all-around at the Integrity Invitational and first in the all-around at the Circle of Stars. At the Level 9 State Championships, she placed third in the all-around, first on vault and third on uneven bars. She qualified to the Level 9 Eastern Nationals after finishing second in the all-around and first on vault. At the Nationals, she placed first on vault, eighth on balance beam, seventh on floor exercise and sixth in the all-around. She made the Region 5 Championship Team.

As a first-year level 10 gymnast in 2010, Sydney placed third on vault at the National Judge's Cup and second on vault at the Battle of Champions. At the Under the Big Top Meet, she finished second in the all-around, first on balance beam and second on floor exercise. She placed fourth in the all-around as well as second on balance beam and floor exercise at the IGI Chicago Style. Sydney was unable to finish the season due to an injury.

Sydney began her 2011 season with Gold Medal Gymnastics at the Universal Galaxy where she finished fourth in the all-around, first on vault and second on floor exercise. At the Circle of Stars, she placed first on vault and floor exercise as well as second in the all-around. She finished third in the all-around at the Buckeye Classic and second in the all-around at the Arnold Challenge. At the Courtney Kupets' "Pink" Invitational, she finished second in the all-around and first on vault and floor exercise. Sydney placed third on vault and fourth on floor exercise at the Level 10 State Championships. At the Level 10 Regionals, she placed eighth in the all-around, first on vault and third on floor exercise. This qualified Sydney to the Junior Olympic Nationals in California.
