Whitney Watson was born on June 26, 1988. She trained at Wildfire Gymnastics during her club career. She graduated from high school in 2006.
In 2003, Whitney competed level ten. She finished in the top fifteen all-around at Regionals. In 2004, she finished third on vault at the San Diego Classic. At the California Classic, she won vault. She finished first on vault, beam, floor and the all-around at the State Championships. Whitney won vault at Regionals. She finished fourth all-around. At JO Nationals, she placed sixth on vault and fourth on beam. In 2005, she finished third on bars at the State Championships. She finished 12th all-around at Regionals. Whitney won beam at the 2006 Spirals Invitational. She placed second on beam at the AOGC Invitational.
As a freshman at Oregon State in 2007, she performed exhibitions on vault eight times, bars twice and beam once. She competed on vault at Washington. During her sophomore season, she earned the alternate role on bars. She began competing at Arizona State in the fourth meet and competed the rest of the season. She also competed on vault once. She earned Pac-10 All-Academic Honorable Mention. In 2009, she competed on vault thirteen times. She also competed on beam. She earned Pac-10 All-Academic Honorable Mention. Whitney again competed on vault in 2010. She competed on bars eight times. She earned Pac-10 All-Academic Second Team.
