Alina Weinstein was born to Alex and Elena on January 9, 1991. She has one sister, Lili. Alina attends West Windsor Plainsboro High School South. She will graduate in 2009. She began gymnastics at the age of five and a half. Alina's favorite event is beam and floor. She is from Plainsboro, New Jersey. Alina was on the National TOPs Team from 1999 to 2002. She trains at Arena Gymnastics in Princeton, New Jersey. Her current coaches are Valdi Kolasa and Ann Kolasa. She was previously coached by Magda During.
In 2001, Alina competed as a level eight. She won beam and floor at the State Championships. At Regionals, she finished fifth all-around. Alina moved up to level nine in 2002. She finished second all-around at States. She broke the beam, floor and all-around records. At Regionals, she placed fourth all-around. Alina won Easterns! She was named USAG NJ Athlete of the Year. She moved up to level ten in 2003. She finished second all-around at States and fourth all-around at Regionals. She broke the state beam record at States. At the JO National Championships, Alina finished 11th all-around. She then competed child national elite at the US Challenge. She finished fourth overall. In 2004, Alina qualified to junior international elite. She competed at the US Classic. At the National Podium Meet, she finished third on beam.
Alina returned to level ten in 2005. She finished second all-around at States. At Regionals, she finished first all-around! Her final meet of the season was the JO National Championships. She finished fourth all-around. This qualified her for the JO National Team. In 2007, Alina competed as a level ten. She finished first on beam at the New Jersey State Championships. She won a bronze medal in the all-around. At Regionals, she won bars, floor, and the all-around titles. Alina did not compete all-around at JO Nationals due to illness.
In 2008, Alina won bars at Regionals. She qualified for the JO National Championships by placing seventh all-around. At JO Nationals she finished eleventh all-around. Alina signed with the University of Illinois in the fall. In December, Alina finished third on bars at the Christmas City Classic. Alina only competed on bars and beam at States. She won bars and placed second on beam. She finished fourth all-around at Regionals. She again won bars and placed second on beam. At JO Nationals, she finished in the top fifteen all-around. She placed in the top ten on floor.
As a freshman at Illinois, she competed on the uneven bars in the final eleven meets of the season. She exhibitioned nine times on beam and eight times on floor. Alina stepped in to replace an injured teammate at the Big Ten Championships on beam. At the NCAA Regional meet, she competed in the all-around for the first time. She placed fourth on beam.
