Taylor Westrick was born on July 18, 1991. She trained at Salto Gymnastics during her club career. She graduated from high school in 2009.

In 2002, Taylor competed level nine. She qualified to Westerns. She began competing level ten in 2003. She competed at JO Nationals. In 2004, Taylor finished fourth all-around at Regionals. She competed at JO Nationals. In 2005, she placed third on beam at the Bravo Classic. Taylor competed on beam and floor at Regionals in 2006. In 2007, she finished first on bars and second all-around at Regionals. She placed on beam at JO Nationals. Taylor won beam at the 2008 IGI Chicago Style. She finished third all-around at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she finished 19th all-around and tenth on beam. Taylor finished first on beam at the 2009 State Championships. She finished third on floor at Regionals. She placed eighth on beam at JO Nationals.

As a freshman at SEMO in 2010, Taylor was a first-team All-MIC selection on beam. Throughout the season she earned four event titles on beam and seven top-three finishes. She was a NACGC/W Academic All-American, an OVC Commissioner's Honor Roll athlete and a Southeast Scholar Athlete. During her sophomore season in 2011, Taylor competed in the all-around as an individual at the NCAA Regional meet. She won beam at the MIC Championships. She earned MIC Gymnast of the Week and MIC Specialist of the Week throughout the season.
