Phyllis Wirs was born on April 19, 1990. She trains at Achiever's Gymnastics in Texas. She graduated from Lake Dallas High School in 2008.

In 2004, she competed as a level seven. She moved up to level eight in 2005. Phyllis qualified to Regionals. In 2006, she began competing as a level nine. She finished in the top fifteen at States. At Regionals, she finished second on vault and third on beam. She was the alternate for Westerns. In 2007, she won floor at States. At Regionals, Phyllis placed second all-around. She finished in the top twenty-five at JO Nationals. She competed as a level nine during 2008. She finished third all-around at the Rose City Classic. She also placed third on vault.

She began attending Winona State University in the fall of 2008. As a freshman, she competed on vault. She continued competing on vault in 2010. She made three appearances on floor.
