Alexandra Yacalis was born on June 21, 1995. Her younger sister, Christiana, is also a gymnast. Alexandra trained at Chenango Gymnastics before moving to Southern Tier Gymnastics Academy in 2005. She will graduate from high school in 2013.

In 2003, Alexandra competed level four. She placed second on beam at the I Love NY Cup. Alexandra competed level seven in 2005. She won bars and the all-around at the I Love NY Cup. She moved up to level eight in 2006. She finished first on beam and third all-around at the I Love NY Cup. In 2007, Alexandra finished fourth on beam at the I Love NY Cup. She placed fourth on floor at Regionals. She competed level nine in 2009. She finished third all-around at the I Love NY Cup. She competed at Regionals.

Alexandra began competing level ten in 2009. She finished third on vault at the Palm Beach Invitational. She finished in the top ten at the State Championships. At Regionals, she finished sixth all-around. She competed at JO Nationals. In 2010, Alexandra won bars at the Winter Graffiti Invitational. She finished fifth all-around at the I Love NY Cup. At Regionals, she placed third on vault and floor. She competed at JO Nationals. In 2011, Alexandra finished first on vault at the Maryland Classic. She won floor at the Metroplex Challenge. At the Rochester Classic, she won the all-around title. She placed third all-around at the Heartland Spring Classic. At the State Championships, she won vault, floor and the all-around. Alexandra finished first on floor and third all-around at Regionals. She placed seventh on vault at JO Nationals. She finished 26th all-around.
