Petrina Yokay was born on May 7, 1991. She trained at Pozsar's Gymnastics through the 2005 season. She then moved to Technique Gymnastics. She graduated from high school in 2009.
In 2002, Petrina competed level nine. She finished third on floor and in the all-around at the State Championships. At Westerns, she placed fifth on vault, beam and the all-around. She moved up to level ten in 2003. She finished fourth on bars at the State Championships, her only event. In 2004, Petrina won vault, bars, beam and the all-around at the Flips USA Invitational. She swept the gold medals at the California Classic. She finished fourth all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she placed third all-around. She finished 11th all-around at JO Nationals. She placed seventh on vault.
Petrina continued competing level ten in 2005. She finished second all-around at the California Classic. She placed second on beam and the all-around at the State Championships. At Regionals, she finished third all-around. Petrina finished 14th all-around at JO Nationals. In 2006, Petrina finished fourth all-around at the Golden State Classic. She only competed on bars at the State Championships. In 2007, Petrina finished second all-around at the Lady Luck Invitational. She did not compete on vault or floor at the State Championships. She placed second all-around and first on bars at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she won floor and the all-around! She placed second on bars, fourth on beam and fifth on vault.
She finished first on vault at the Golden State Classic in 2008. At the State Championships, she placed first on vault and third all-around. She also finished third all-around at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she finished third on beam and eleventh all-around. In 2009, Petrina swept the gold medals at the Hard Rock Invitational. She finished second at the Long Beach Open and Golden State Classic. At the State Championships, she finished fifth all-around. Petrina placed first on vault and fourth all-around at Regionals. At JO Nationals, she finished fifth all-around! She also finished in the top ten on beam and floor.
As a freshman at Auburn, Petrina was crucial in the bars lineup. Her season high was a 9.950. She also competed on vault at the SEC Championships and NCAA Regional.
