Betsy Zander was born on September 8, 1992. She will graduate from Severna Park High School in 2010. She trains at Docksiders.
Betsy competed level five in 2001. She finished fourth on vault at States. She moved up to level six in 2002 then level seven in 2003. At the 2003 State Championships, she finished second on vault and fifth all-around. As a level eight in 2004, Betsy won a bronze medal on beam at States. In 2005, she competed level nine. At the Parkette Invitational, she finished fourth on bars. She placed fourth on beam at the WOGA Classic.
She competed level nine for the second year in 2006. At the Sweetheart Invitational, she finished third all-around. At the Parkette Invitational she won a silver medal on uneven bars. Betsy won a bronze medal on bars at the Nation's Capital Cup. At States, she won bars. Betsy finished 12th all-around at Regionals, which was high enough to qualify for Easterns. Betsy had a great meet was Easterns, finished seventh all-around! She also placed in the top ten on bars and floor.
In 2007, Betsy began competing as a level ten. She finished first all-around at the Greater New York Invitational. She won silver medals on beam and floor. At States, she finished second on beam. She had a great meet at Regionals, finishing fifth all-around. This qualified her for the JO National Championships. Betsy continued competing level ten in 2008. She won beam at the IGI Chicago Style. At the Capital Cup, she won a bronze medal on beam. Betsy placed second on beam and floor at the Sweetheart Invitational. She finished fourth on floor at States. At Regionals, Betsy placed twelfth all-around.
In December, Betsy finished third all-around at the Christmas on the Chesapeake meet. About a month later, she competed at the Brestyan's Invitational. Betsy placed third on vault, bars and the all-around at the Maryland Classic. At the Parkettes Invitational, she finished third on beam and fourth on floor. She also scored a 37 in the all-around! She competed on vault and bars at the Sweetheart Invitational with a silver medal performance on the former. At the Malibu Coast Challenge, she placed fourth on bars and beam. After skipping the State meet, she came back to finish third all-around at the Regional Championships. She qualified to her second JO National Championships but did not compete at JO Nationals.
Betsy had a great 2009-2010 season. In December, she finished third all-around at the Christmas on the Chesapeake meet. Betsy placed second all-around at the Metroplex Challenge. She won a silver medal on floor at both the Classic Rock Invitational and Sweetheart meet. At the State Championships, she finished fourth all-around and first on floor. Betsy placed third all-around at Regionals. She ended her season at JO Nationals, placing eighth!
